  1. This is outrageous! Something should be done about it.

  2. There are alot of words there, however...it seems like we need Paul Harvey to tell us...the REST of the story!

  4. We've already heard your side...and you tell it so well, with such enthusiasm. The problem is this--there IS more to the story, but I'm having trouble finding it within your manifesto. Maybe you'd like to explain to everyone why MediRide, Inc. EMS is no longer welcome in certain areas. Maybe you'd like to elaborate more about your true values and character, instead of portraying yourself in a matter which would put you in a running with Bishop Baraga for sainthood. Or should we wait for Paul Harvey to explain it all somehow?

Remember, this is a small community where bad news travels fast. If you're someone from the outside looking in, such as I, it's easy to see certain individuals try to sell themselves as a victim and blame everyone else. Is everyone else really the problem?

  5. It would be nice, Anonymous, if you would publish your name here, as I have done.

Thank you for your compliments. I do tell it with enthusiasm because I am very passionate about what we do here! I'm sure you didn't mean to be complimentary, but I'll take it anyway.

I'm also glad you used the word manifesto. Great word!

As for MediRide EMS not "being welcome" in certain areas, I am not aware of those areas. If you'd care to elaborate in your next post, I might have the chance to provide you with some explanation. As for now, I have no idea what it is you're talking about.

I'd be glad to address your questions and give you the information you're requesting, the "more to the story" that there is. You're right, there's plenty more. It took me quite some time to publish the information posted at mediride.com, and it's just too exhausting to publish the rest. Suffice it to say, I have thousands of pages of emails and letters that demonstrate more of the same. I figure what I've got posted gives the reader the general idea. Like I said in my last reply to you, if you'd care to contact me and make an appointment, I'd be more than happy to go over it with you!

If you have specific questions about my "values and character," I'd invite you to ask me. It's difficut for one to explain his character in broad generalities.

I'm glad to know you're from outside the area. If, in fact, this is true, you'll know that these types of problems are not exclusive to Marquette County and these issues have happened all over the state of Michigan. The difference there is that one giant entity, like MGH, does not have power and control over all of the aspects of the community.

I had a long conversation with the GM of a large Detroit-area EMS service today. He read my site, and personally knew many of the players involved. I won't publish some of his comments about these people because they weren't very complimentary.

This guy's service does over 30,000 runs a year, and has been in the EMS game in Michigan for decades. I've never met him before, and his call was out-of-the blue. He understood exactly what was going on here, and was very supportive of our company. He gave me some names of LP EMS folks who have also had dealings with some of the people involved in the shennanigans here in the U.P. and I'm looking forward to speaking with them too.

Finally, to answer your question, "is everyone else really the problem?" I think the answer is Yes.

All I'm guilty of is starting an EMS service, that competes against the mighty Marquette General Hospital. At my very first Medical Control Meeting, 10 years ago, before we even had a license, the attitude was very negative. I had never met any of these people. The first comment I got, from Dan Wolf, when I made my initial presentation was, "what gives you the right to start an ambulance service?" What? I was stunned. It's been a battle ever since.

At MediRide, Inc. EMS, we have always stood for the idea that the rule of law is what should govern us, and not powerful, special interest groups. Despite the laws, currently in place, some groups, chose to ignore it, and make their own rules. Is that fair-play? I don't think so. Why has my character been under assault from the beginning? What have I ever done to those people? The answer, my friend is nothing.

I try to live by the credo that my late mother imparted into me at a very young age. It is simply this, "you can never go wrong by doing what's right." I believe it and I live by it.

  6. Point 1
Anonymous writes:"there IS more to the story, but I'm having trouble finding it within your manifesto."
You sound like an insider, so why don't you tell the other side of the story. If the 911 call fabricated? Did the publisher of this page hack into the Michigan State Legislature website and change the wording in the laws? Perhaps the Marquette County authorities for this area had no meetings and sent no e-mails and all of the letters displayed on the page are written by the publisher on stolen MGH stationary? You make the call: which sounds more fantastic? (A) The publisher of this site faked a 911 call, hacked into a government website, and wrote and scanned letters on stolen MGH paper, or (B) the security of the community, the quality of service, and value of human life is taking a backseat to the riches of people in high places. I'd choose "A" to be the hardest to believe.
I understand that running a hospital is extremely expensive and administrators have the responsibility to make sure they cover it and maintain a surplus of funds. But if this can be used as a justification for violating the law, we should stop chasing all criminals since they justify their crimes too (ex. feeding a family is expensive so it's OK to steal or sell drugs - we both know it's not). When big business and government doesn't follow the law, the methods of the free market system and capitalism the regulate a fair distribution of wealth become ineffective. This deteriates the middle class which weakens the economy (read the news in the past few years? Where has the middle class' money been going?). You still think it's a good time to turn, yet, another blind eye?

    Point 2
My experiences with the “hospital” are that they are hardly there to ensure that anyone lives or dies; basically, they sell life to the highest bidder(s). Finding a doctor not associated with the" hospital" is like pulling teeth because, it seems, all of the private practices are full. Now I suspect that some of them may have some kind of contractual (formal or informal) agreement with the "hospital" or some other money making entity. Note that I place the word "hospital" in quotation marks. I do this because being a care facility in the case of MGH appears (from this report, several stories I've heard from patients and employees, and my own experiences) to only coincidentally be a health care facility - first they are a business. Like any other corporate organization, money rules. Finally, the scariest thing about this is if the hospital, which is supposedly in place to save lives, can disregard the life of Marquette citizens so callously, how much corruption exists in other "public" agencies (pubic is in quotation marks because corruption and greed are hardly concerned with the public)?

  7. I have known Michelle for almost 10 years and I was able to see the growth from the beginning of MediRide to where it is today. I have had friends with issues that needed medical transport but they couldn't afford the trip so they opted to basically risk their lives to either drive themselves or have someone else drive them. The whole travel time with no care until they arrived at the hospital. It is a common known fact that if there is a monopoly (Ma Bell) The cost for the consumer user will be drastically more than if there is competition. I hope the your efforts get noticed and some legal action is taken towards a business that makes money on helping people and part of this plan should include other options for transport. People should not have to make the decision on their well being based upon greedy hospital execs that need their pockets lined.

  8. How is the pet ambulance doing these days?

  9. I work for a home health agency and have had and continue to have MGH issues with patient choice. They are there to make money, bottom line. The patient request or hoice is not an option for them. Despite the laws, choice just doesn't happen. I've had it happen with several of my patients that I have cared for for years. At discharge chare time there is no mention of my agency only MGH home health, and when questioned they have had the audacity to claim how the continuity of care from the hospital will continuity! Hilarious! I am behind you 100% and will send letters etc. I'm tired of the big guy stepping on everyone else inthe UP. Enough is enough. Good luck with the fight. It's unfortunate that it is even necessary.

  10. Lots of cronyism and incompetence at Marquette General Hospital. My mother went in for surgery on her large intestine (colon) at MGH and Dr. Kosinski did the surgery. MGH billed her for procedures that were not even done. Within weeks, she had complications from the surgery. The care was so poor at Marquette General and the doctor was incompetent so I drove my mother 300 miles (6 hour drive each way) to the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin (just south of Wausau) to have a specialist there look at her. The doctor in WI decided they had to operate to correct the problem. Once they had mom opened up on the operating table, the WI docs noticed that the MGH doctor did not suture her colon together properly and scar tissue built up on the inside of the intestine. Even though my parents live right here in Marquette County, they go to Green Bay and Marshfield, Wisconsin for their medical needs as the doctors and nurses there put the patient first and are very professional in doing their jobs. THEY WILL NOT go to MGH for anything unless there is an emergency. If Marquette General wants more people coming to them, they need to clean up their act and put people first instead of the almighty $$$$$
